About the Artist
Ann Kathryn Kagan’s large, expressionistic, fantasy interpretation of flowers, landscapes, skyscapes and romantic symbols of hearts and figures are influenced by forms and colors or nature. She works on conveying an atmospheric mood with a technique of energetic brushstrokes and vibrant color.

Originally from New Brunswick, New Jersey Ann majored in painting at the University of Cincinnati, School of Design, Art and Architecture where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Art Education.

Ann moved to Baltimore with her husband, architect Leonard Kagan, and continued her education at the Maryland Institute of Art and the College of Notre Dame.

In addition to being a private art teacher, she has volunteered at numerous organizations throughout Maryland. Ann’s painting donations have helped raise funds for various schools and non-profit organizations in and around the Baltimore area including Park School, Indian Creek School, the Carroll Museum, the Children’s Guild Outreach program and the Emerge Program, among others.

Ann’s paintings are in many public and private collections, and she has been featured in numerous solo exhibits. Ann was recently recognized by the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Artist’s Statement
I look to the sky for inspiration. Starry nights, bright blue cloud speckled skies, moonlight on gardens, sunsets, aqua blue water and flowers are some of my favorite themes. I love the way flower petals float in the air and on water. When snow falls gently on leaves and branches, I am inspired. I use a happy palette of colors and a personal handwriting style of brushwork. I like to celebrate joy and life in my paintings. I enjoy inspiring children and adults to be creative and say to themselves “I can be an artist too.”
