A Letter in the Scroll
Paintings by Barry Goldstein
Exhibit Dates: September 2 – October 29, 2025
About the Exhibit
Large paintings on cardboard zoom in for an intimate portrayal of people, place and circumstance; collectively, juxtaposed moments in time; respectively “slices of Jewish life” in Israel and the diaspora. This exhibit was inspired by the words of the Baal Shem Tov and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks in his book, “A Letter in the Scroll.” They spoke of the Jewish People as a living Torah Scroll. Each and every Jew is their own unique and indispensable “Letter in the Scroll.” Vertical paintings are positioned side by side to suggest columns of Hebrew script in a Torah scroll. The collection of paintings was conceived as a pop-up installation with individual works physically detached; yet, visually very much unified.
